Ms. Strasberg said that she was shocked to learn that most of the homeless population was made up of single mothers.

The new advocate for this underserved population went on to work with Humble Design, a home interior design company that provides families in transition with fully furnished and beautifully decorated homes. The success rate of these families speaks for itself: only 1 percent return to homelessness, versus the average 50 percent.
