A federal lawsuit was recently filed against the state of Arizona, specifically the Departments of Child Safety and Health Services, claiming that the system is not properly caring for the state’s most vulnerable children. There were even allegations that children had slept at state offices because there weren’t enough shelter beds and foster homes available to them.
There is a nonprofit organization we proudly support, Crisis Nursery, that aims to put a stop to this and to provide the type of caring and safe shelter that children deserve. We’d like to thank each and every person who stopped by to take a test drive for charity at Crisis Nursery K’s for Kids Walk/Run! In addition to taking steps - literally - to help raise funds for the Valley’s longest running children’s shelter, several participants also took test drives with us and we donated $100 for each one!
We’re excited to announce that Camelback Ford raised $5,000 thanks to your actions and we’ll be donating an additional $1,000 on top of this, totaling a $6,000 donation to support Crisis Nursery. For over seven decades, the shelter has provided a place for children to reside and rehabilitate following traumatic experiences, and today its volunteers continue to go above and beyond to provide safe temporary housing for at-risk youth, along with foster parent training and recruiting. However, as a nonprofit organization they rely on contributions from the community to do this.
Right now, our state can’t properly accommodate the vast number of foster children in the system, so nonprofits like Crisis Nursery are doing what they can to further increase the amount of children they can serve. If you weren’t able to make it to K’s for Kids, please consider donating to Crisis Nursery online. It’s a Qualifying Foster Care Tax-Exempt 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization (QCO), meaning that married Arizona taxpayers can receive a DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR credit on their state income taxes for donations up to $800, while single taxpayers can receive a dollar-for-dollar credit on donations up to $400. Just look out for the revised edition of Form 321 the next time tax season rolls around and file it along with your state taxes.
Camelback Ford was extremely privileged to participate in K’s for Kids, which took place on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Reach 11 Sports Complex. We’d like to encourage you all to attend next year if you didn’t have an opportunity this time!
