Americans have never known the joy of Ford's beloved Focus RS, but Ford President and CEO, Mark Fields, very recently disclosed that the company has finally decided to bestow on us the lust-worthy German-built hatchback that's captured the hearts of European drivers.

It's been months now that we've been waiting to hear news about RS. After several spy shots were published by Car and Driver, Motor Authority and other websites, many believed the idea of introducing RS to the states was back on the table. Now, we're elated to find out that Fields has confirmed and every car enthusiast's wish has come true.

Unlike the previous front-wheel-drive model, sources say the U.S. will get a version of the hatch that employs a brand-new all-wheel-drive system designed for high power output.  Sources have also revealed that the previous model's turbocharged 305-horsepower inline-four engine won't be coming to the U.S. either.

Instead, the new 2016 RS will be the only Focus to come with the brand's new 2.3-liter Ecoboost four-cylinder engine, which is also offered on the next-generation 2015 Mustang. The 2.3-liter engine is a little dynamo that delivers 310 hp in the Mustang. While horsepower ratings for the RS haven't been released, you can bet on the fact that they'll be near the same level, or probably even significantly higher.

We can't wait to hear additional details about the Focus RS. But more importantly, we can't wait for the Focus RS to go on sale in Phoenix, Arizona, at Camelback Ford. We don't know exactly when it's coming, but sources say it'll most likely be released for the 2016 model year.
