What's New for the 2019 Ford Flex?

The Ford Flex sticks with the same basic design that's served the vehicle since 2009. There are a few minor interior changes here or there in terms of color or cup holder placement, but it would be very hard for even a seasoned professional to tell the difference between this year's model and the model that came previously. As such, those who were fans of the 2018 Flex should still enjoy the update in 2019.

What Are Some of the Great Trim Additions?

The 2019 Ford Flex comes with three different types of trim. The basic trim package, the SE, is actually fairly feature-rich. It has rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, keypad keyless entry, a rearview camera, and a 4.2-inch touchscreen that helps to control the bluetooth audio, radio, USB ports, and CD player.

The next step up, the SEL, adds a bevy of features. The SEL has 18-inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition, heated seats, the Sync 3 entertainment system, and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This version of the trim also features a wood-like interior, improved brakes, and dual-zone climate control.

The final trim package is the Limited. It has everything that's in the SEL and then some. This version has 19-inch wheels, xenon headlights, upgraded interior, and exterior trim, a navigation system, and a premium 12-speaker sound system. This trim can also be upgraded to include automated parallel parking, forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise control in addition to power-folding third-row seats and a heated steering wheel.

How Well Does the 2019 Flex Perform?

2019 Ford Flex Front GrilleTaking a look under the hood reveals an engine much like last year's model. The 3.5-liter V6 puts out about 254 horsepower. Surprisingly, there are no major engine upgrades with the trim packages, and every version of the vehicle includes the Ecoboost feature. This might be a necessity for some, as the vehicle only manages about 23 miles per gallon the highway without the feature.

Families and Passengers Care About Extra Safety

2019 Ford Flex Rear StorageThe 2019 Ford Flex has got all the normal features - anti-lock brakes, front and side-impact airbags, etc. - included in the base package. The more impressive safety features are available as the trim levels go up, though you'll pay for the extra level of safety. These features include blind-spot monitoring, automatic parallel parking, and forward-collision warning. It should be noted that these features can only be added to the SEL, and the Limited - drivers of the SE only have access to the basic safety features.
