What's New for the 2019 Ford Mustang?

This year, the Mustang is rolling out new performance features. The active valve exhaust, previously only available for the upgraded V8 engine, is now available for the standard four-cylinder EcoBoost Mustang. Now even four-cylinder Mustangs can sound off with an aggressive exhaust note. The Mustang GT with manual transmission now comes standard with rev-matching technology, so drivers can count on a smooth downshift every time. Ford is also reviving the Mustang Bullitt and California Special models for 2019, giving collectors something to talk about.

An American Icon Updated with Additional Variety

This year, there are five trim models available: the EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Bullitt. The EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium both sport the Mustang's base turbocharged four-liter engine. The GT, GT Premium, and Bullitt utilize the line's infamous 5.0-liter V8 engine. No matter which engine you prefer, the Mustang is available with either the standard six-speed manual or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission.

The base EcoBoost model starts you off with an impressive range of performance features. These include a standard electric line-lock, which is just what you need to facilitate burnouts at the track. If your EcoBoost has the manual transmission, then it also comes with launch control for maximum speed from a standing stop. The EcoBoost is also big on modern convenience, supplying to features like keyless entry and ignition and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Inside, you'll find Bluetooth connectivity and two USB ports, making it easy to connect your smartphone to the six-speaker sound system. Use the 4.2-inch center display screen to adjust infotainment settings.

When you upgrade to the EcoBoost Premium, you get all of the above features and then some. This model offers increasing luxury with leather upholstery and revised cabin trim. It also upgrades your infotainment experience, thanks to Ford's Sync 3 system. It includes an 8-inch touchscreen and complete smartphone integration via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay technology. With it, you can view smartphone apps like Phone and Messages on Sync 3's 8-inch touchscreen. This model also includes a nine-speaker audio system, so you can play your favorite tunes even louder.

The Mustang GT is equipped much like the base EcoBoost model, with one big exception. It includes the 5.0-liter V8 engine for increased speed and athleticism. It also supplies power-adjustable front seats, so drivers of all sizes can find that just-right spot at the wheel. Rear parking sensors help you back out of a tight parallel space. The Mustang GT Premium combines the GT powertrain with the luxury items offered on the EcoBoost Premium model, giving you the best of both worlds.

Finally, there's the limited-run Mustang Bullitt. You can easily spot it, thanks to its exclusive Highland Green exterior paint. It also features various Bullitt logos and lacks a rear spoiler, making it even more distinct from the rest. The Bullitt comes standard with the new Performance package. It's optional for other models. With it, the Bullitt leaves the competition in the dust, thanks to its bigger radiator, stiffer front springs, and larger rear stabilizer bar. The package also includes larger brakes, which come in handy on high-performance rides.
