With many commercial vehicles traveling hundreds of miles per day on North American roads, electrifying these fleets can have far-reaching benefits for the health of the planet. One of the most significant obstacles that has prevented many businesses from electrifying their fleets is the need for more infrastructure. Recently, Ford Pro has partnered with Xcel Energy to expand the number of charging stations available dramatically. In addition, businesses in select states could benefit from offsetting fees associated with upgrading their fleets.
Xcel Energy's Electric Vehicle Supply Infrastructure plan includes explicitly the development of 30,000 new chargers by 2030. This directly addresses the concern of access to charging stations. While many fleet operators plan for their EVs to be charged at their own charging stations, the cost of installing these stations is often prohibitive. As a result, the new plan covers reimbursement for the cost of charger installation and post-installation support for businesses. This reimbursement is only available in Colorado, Minnesota, and Wisconsin at this time. Additional states that may be included in the program in the near future are Texas, South Dakota, North Dakota, New Mexico, and Michigan. Ford Pro will also grant access to Ford Pro Telematics and Ford Pro Intelligence for improved fleet management.
