In the halcyon days of SUVs, they were based off of a brand’s formidable truck lineup. But these days, the platforms are usually derived from cars, hence “crossovers.” But the 2016 Ford Explorer, recently updated for this model year, is no such beast. Large and brawny, it backs up its legacy of beast mode with some pretty impressive options.
